Rare, antique handrail salvaged from a circa 1920's home in Dunmore, PA. The rail is made of steel and is painted white.
It has 2 thicker, vertical, square rods at both ends, and 7 thinner square and twisted vertical spindles in between. There are several, thinner, S-shaped pieces in the middle for decoration.
This piece is quite unusual because its handrail not only curves at the end, but it also curves out at the other end. This must have been at the top of a 1-step landing.
Unlike modern, hollow handrails, you could feel the strength and weight of this piece as soon as you grab it. If you're going to lean or put your weight on the handrail, you not only want it to have the capacity to do so, but you also want it to give you a sense that you could trust it. This handrail is definitely the type to give you that peace of mind.
The handrail is completely, straight, intact, and in great condition with no breaks, cracks, dents, or gouges. There are spots of rust where there is paint missing, but it's all surface-level corrosion; no rot. It's strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
