Grand, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old building in Cleveland, OH. The door has a solid Pine core covered in a 3/16" thick Maple veneer. The stain and finish are almost completely gone which will facilitate the re-finishing process.

Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike  the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are  1/16" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. This door could be refinished a couple of times without sanding down to the core wood.

If you think that pine is a weak, soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber.

The door has a single window without any glass. We could add glass to the door--message us for a quote.

Hardware: The door has no hardware holes which means that you can install your lockset wherever you like!

Quirks & Considerations:

The door is missing all but 1 piece of molding on its interior side. We could replace the missing molding--message us for a quote.

The bottom rails of most doors are not a single wide board, but actually several narrower boards glued together. The boards that comprised the bottom rail of this door loosened and fell off (see last photo), after decades of the wood expanding and contracting when the temperature changed. Old animal hide glue is far inferior to the glue made today. We could close replace the missing rail with fresh wood, then applying modern glue and inserting new, wooden joints to keep the rail tighter than ever—message us for a quote.

Condition: Considering the door is well over 100 years old, it  is strong, sturdy and in great structural condition. It only has nicks and scratches, but no broken or cracked joints, gouges or any other serious issues. Most of the blemishes that it has will  disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever  remains will be subtle, "character marks".

The door is set up to swing into a home towards the left, or away from the home towards the right. We could modify the door to swing in the opposite direction--message us for a quote

Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
