36"x72" Antique Vintage Old Reclaimed Salvaged Industrial Steel Metal Shelf Book Case

Heavy-duty shelf/bookcase salvaged from the former, "Manteno State Hospital," in Manteno, IL. There is so much to say about the building and even more to say about the town! The town has an eerie feel and these shelves carry a bit of that essence especially considering that they came from the psychiatric ward.

The shelf is made of solid steel. From the photos, it looks like a flimsy steel shelf that you commonly find; the type that flex and bend when you grab 2 corners and push and pull it in opposite directions. This is not that! There is no bending or flexing with this shelf. This is pre WW2 steel! It weighs about 130 - 150lbs.

Condition: Considering its age, this shelf is in great shape. No breaks, cracks, large dents, gouges, rot, warp, etc. It has plenty of patina (rust) and some pitting (minor surface corrosion), however, it is strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
