What a rare find! Spectacular knob and plate set made by, “Russell and Erwin Mfg. Co. (R&E),” of New Britain, CT during the 1870's. Each set includes 2 bronze knobs, 2 bronze rosettes (plates), and a steel spindle and 2 setscrews. Set#1 just has 1 setscrew as the other knob is secured using a pin that is very difficult to remove.

The knobs and plates have a gorgeous design which epitomizes the Aesthetic (Eastlake) era. The beauty of the details is accentuated by a beautiful, rich patina. Set#1 has much less patina than Set#2

Set#1 was salvaged from Northeastern PA and Set#2 was salvaged from Philadelphia, PA. Both were found unpainted and in excellent condition. There are no breaks, cracks, dents, deep scratches, gouges, The casting on all knobs is very crisp considering their age.

To find 2, matching, complete, genuine, unmodified sets like these in such fine condition is VERY rare. Once these sell, who knows when another opportunity like this will come around--don't miss out!
