Gorgeous, antique, pedestal sink salvaged from Northeastern, PA. It's made entirely of vitreous China (porcelain) by "The Trenton Potteries Co." of Trenton, NJ sometime during the first quarter of the previous century.
The pedestal weighs about 35 lbs and the sink is about 110 lbs.
The chrome-plated brass fixtures shown in the photos are included.
Condition: If you look at the photos of the sink, you'll notice several cracks. Most are "crazing" which are basically surface cracks which form naturally over time in most clay materials like porcelain and terracotta. If you rub your fingernail over these cracks, it will slide over them like any other part of the sink.
There are only 2 cracks which your fingernail could get caught in: a short one along the top, front edge and the other is a long one which starts from the top of the left side of the basin and continues under the sink (see close up photos). Although you could feel the cracks with your fingernail, you can't stick your nail in them; they're not deep at all, maybe 1 to 2 mm. As a result, these cracks are not structurally threatening whatsoever. They are just character marks like the crazing.
Although we've cleaned many sinks in the past, we are no experts in porcelain repair and don't have any options to conceal the cracks other than to paint them.
The only real damage is on the top edge of the pedestal (see photos). Since the sink is so heavy and requires 2 people to carefully position it, I'm guessing there was a mishap which resulted in thin pieces of the top rim breaking off. Although they are noticeable, you need to duck under the sink to see them. Unless you are looking for flaws, you probably won't notice it even if you duck down to look--I didn't notice until we took the top off and I came back to grab the pedestal..
We didn't clean this sink, just wiped it down with a damp rag for the photos. However, this sink came from an upscale home in an affluent section of town and was cleaned regularly so there is no need for any deep cleaning.
If it weren't for the aforementioned cosmetic blemishes, this sink could easily sell for 2x - 3x what it's price at. However, if you could live with them, paint them, or find some other way to cover them, you'll have an amazing, rare sink that will still outlast all sinks made today, for a great price--don't miss out!
