The piece is made of walnut. I estimate the piece is over 100 years old. You can tell that the piece was refinished at some point recently (last 30 years) as it looks too clean to be a 100 year old finish. It has the typical nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small spots of worn finish here and there that you would expect to find on a used, piece of furniture. However, there are no large breaks or cracks, gouges or rot. There is a small break on the back end of the piece (see last photo).
