WOW! Gorgeous, rare, antique, doorbell crank salvaged from an old Victorian home in Northeastern PA. I'm not sure which manufacturer (R&E, Sargent, Corbin, etc.) made it but I do know it was made during the 1880's. It's made of solid, heavy, thick, cast bronze, not plated steel. The rod/spindle that stems from the back of the plate is made of steel.

Like most of the decorative hardware produced during the time period, it has an intricate, Aesthetic (Eastlake) style design.

At the point of salvage, the piece was covered in paint (see last 3 photos). Since then, we removed the paint while trying to preserve as much of the patina (tarnish) as possible. If you prefer a clean, shiny look, you could remove the patina with "Brasso" and some #0000 steel wool.

The bronze itself in great condition with only tiny nicks and subtle scratches. There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or gouges. The ornate details are crisp, vivid, and have held up incredibly well for almost 140 years. The ringer is ready for another lifetime of service.
