Wow, what a rare find! Beautiful, extremely heavy-duty, antique door hinges salvaged from upstate NY. These were made sometime during the first quarter of the previous century. Each hinge is made of solid, heavy, thick, cast brass, and has 5 knuckles with ball-shaped finials on each end.

There are ball-bearings in inside of the middle 2 knuckles, which help the hinges move smoothly even when holding up an extreme amount of weight.

Each leaf or half is 1/4" thick and, together, the hinges weigh 8.5 lbs!

At the point of salvage, we found the hinges unpainted and with a beautiful, rich patina.

Considering that the hinges are about 100 years old, they are in excellent condition.  They have nicks and scratches--what you would expect to find on old, used hardware. However, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or deep scratches. The hinges open and close easily and the pins slide out with little effort.

Unlike the hinges made today, which you could buy at your local hardware store; these hinges are thicker, heavier, and stronger. They were made of solid cast brass, not a cheap composite or alloy, and were built to last a lifetime. If you are planning on using these hinges to hang a new door, it's a very good chance that you'll end up replacing the door before the hinges!
