Beautiful pair of vintage table pedestals salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. We acquired a gorgeous MCM style table about 10 years ago with the intention of refinishing it, but the top was so intricate and required so much detailed sanding that we never got around to stripping it. The pedestals and rectangular boards on top are made of ash. Each leg has a thin strip of brass lining it's top, simply for decoration. The brass has a dark, rich patina but could be cleaned to a brilliant shine if you prefer a cleaner, polished look.
There are no flaws to report. They have the typical nicks, scratches, and spots of worn finish that you would expect to find on old table legs, but no breaks, cracks, gouges, rot, or warp. The vertical cracks or splits you see on the sides of the round columns or shafts, in the photos, are just the seams of where the 2 halves of the round pedestals were joined, and are not damage. 5 out of the 6 round metal feet are present and 3 still have their plastic liners to prevent scuffing hardwood floors.
Our carpenter inspected the pieces from top to bottom and didn't need to make any repairs, or reinforce anything. The legs are firm and do not wobble or jiggle. These pedestals are strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
