Pair Antique Vintage Old Salvaged Reclaimed Victorian Concentric Glass Doorknobs Door Knobs Cast Iron Base Shank
Pair Antique Vintage Old Salvaged Reclaimed Victorian Concentric Glass Doorknobs Door Knobs Cast Iron Base Shank
What a rare find! This is a pair of concentric glass door knobs made during the late 1800's. Each has a cast iron base and comes with a standard, square, steel spindle and 2 setscrews.
This pair was used in conjunction with a rim lock (surface-mount lock). One knob had a round, cast iron rosette/plate and the other, with the flared or protruding base sat on the rim lock itself. If you need either a rosette or rim lock w/keeper, we have plenty which we could include--message us.
These knobs were made by hand with a difficult technique that only a skilled glass worker could do. I've been dealing in architectural salvage since 2003 and have come across thousands of knobs. However, this is the first time I ever came across a set like this.
The photos show a fiery red/orange color inside of the knobs. This is from some rust that has formed at the base of the glass. When the light hits the knob at a certain angle, it looks like there is a fire emanating from within the glass. This is just a cool bonus feature that mother nature and time have given the knobs.
Aside from their beauty and fine-quality construction, these knobs are in amazing condition considering that they are made of glass and are 130 - 150 years old! The glass is free of any blemish that you could think of. The bases are free of any corrosion and are tightly affixed to the glass portions (no looseness!).
This is a great opportunity for any collector or any homeowner who wants to really show off by installing this remarkable set on a door in their home.
