Vintage Old Antique Wood Wooden Metal Steel Brass National Washboard Clothes Clothing Wash Board Washer

Charming, vintage washboard salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. It's made of solid wood and a magnetic metal (possibly steel or tin). I believe the washing portion of the board is brass plated because it has a yellowish hue and spots of green patina (verdigris). They would've plated the surface with brass because it doesn't rust like steel or tin does. There are 3 wooden slats behind the metal to reinforce it. This was not only a quality piece in it's day, it was also heavy-duty!

It was probably used hundreds of times and has developed a great, worn look.

The washboard is in great structural condition with no breaks, cracks, gouges, rot, or warp.
