Lovely, antique shutters salvaged from a 1890's brownstone in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, NY (see last photo). The set consists of 2 pairs (4 panels/sections) of shutters that are joined together by hinges. Each pair has 3 recessed/flat panels and 1 opening with adjustable louvers that swivel up and down by lifting and lowering the vertical, bar/rod which is called the louver arm.

Except for the adjustable louvers which are made of black walnut; the shutters are entirely made of Douglas Fir. Black walnut is a rare and valuable domestic wood and Douglas Fir is common domestic wood but holds up well to moisture.

The shutters come with their original hinges. All shutters open and close smoothly and effortlessly.

Although all of the sections open and close easily and fold flat; due to paint build up over the years, they don't open completely (see photos showing the top edges from above). If you plan on using these for decoration, they are fine. This could only be an issue if you plan on installing them. It's a very minor issue, which could be remedied with some sanding.

The louver arms are a bit stiff because they haven't been moved in decades, but they still lift up and down without much effort. All louvers are connected and swivel.

Not only was the beautiful home well-maintained over the years, but the homeowners went the extra mile ensuring that the shutters were removed carefully and stored in a dry environment.

Considering their age and that they were used outdoors; all panels/sections are in great condition. Set#1 has a thin break in one of the upper corners of it's outer panel and a bigger break in the lower panel of the other outer panel (see photos showing the shutters at an angle). Set#2 has a break in one of it's louvers and a split in the other (see close up photo). Otherwise,  expect the typical nicks and scratches that you would would expect to find on old, used shutters.

The shutters are strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
