18"x39" Antique Vintage Old SOLID Wood Wooden Bifold Window Shutter Plantation Style Adjustable Louvers Panels

Lovely, antique shutters salvaged from a 1890's brownstone in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, NY (see last photo). The set consists of 2 panels/sections of shutters that are joined together by hinges. The pair has 3 recessed/flat panels and 1 opening with adjustable louvers that swivel up and down by lifting and lowering the vertical, bar/rod which is called the louver arm.

Except for the adjustable louvers which are made of black walnut; the shutters are entirely made of Douglas Fir. Black walnut is a rare and valuable domestic wood and Douglas Fir is common domestic wood but holds up well to moisture.

The shutters come with their original hinges. All shutters open and close smoothly and effortlessly.

Since this pair was originally a part of a set of 4 shutters, they have a stepped (rabetted) edge which was meant to interlock or connect with the stepped edge of the other pair which we do not have. If you plan on using these for decoration, it's fine but if you want to install them for a narrow window, you may want to cut off the stepped edge which would make the pair 17 3/8" wide.

Although the 2 sections open and close easily and fold flat; due to paint build up over the years, they don't open completely (see photos showing the top edges from above). If you plan on using these for decoration, they are fine. This could only be an issue if you plan on installing them. It's a very minor issue, which could be remedied with some sanding.

The louver arm is a bit stiff because it hasn't been moved in decades, but it still lifts up and down without much effort. All louvers are connected and swivel.

Not only was the beautiful home well-maintained over the years, but the homeowners went the extra mile ensuring that the shutters were removed carefully and stored in a dry environment.

Considering their age and that they were used outdoors; both panels/sections are in great condition with only the typical nicks and scratches that you would would expect to find on old, used shutters. They are strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
