32x79" Antique Vintage Old Reclaimed Salvaged Victorian Interior SOLID Wood Wooden Door 4 Stacked Panel
* Please note that the 32"x79" in the title is just an estimate. The door is not exactly that size. Please see "Dimensions" below.
Elegant, antique, interior door salvaged from an old, home in Northeastern PA. It's made of solid Douglas Fir or pine, and is painted white on both sides.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The door has a Victorian style, 4-panel arrangement with 4 vertical panels. The panels are raised on both sides.
Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit them (check out our eBay store).
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Quirks & Considerations:
The door has 2 thin cracks on one of it's panels (see last photo).
Expansion and contraction occurs naturally due to changes in temperature, and the cracks are just a result of this process over the course of many years. It may sound funny, but when the panels expanded and reached their limits within their openings or frames; they were unable to stretch out any further, and ultimately cracked in the center to relieve their stress or tension.
The width of the door was unevenly cut by 3/8" and the height by 5/8". The cuts were most likely to compensate for a warped floor or sagging foundation. We could cut the door to an even height/width, cut it shorter/narrower, or even build it up to a larger size--email us for a quote.
Condition: The door is strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. It only has nicks and scratches and the 2 thin cracks in the panel mentioned in Quirks & Considerations , but no broken or cracked joints, gouges, rot, warp, or any other serious issues. Most of the blemishes that it has will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
Strip/Refinish: We could refinish or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. We have MANY photos of doors that we've restored that could give you an idea of how this door could clean up. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Swing: The door is set up to swing into a room towards the right, or away from a room towards the left. We can modify the door to swing in the opposite direction--message us for a quote.
Modification: We could also modify the door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace panels with glass, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
