Rare, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old home in Upstate, NY. The door has a solid Douglas fir core covered in a 1/8" oak veneer. The door is stained on one side and painted on the other side.

Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door.

The door has a lovely, Victorian-style design with a single oval glass pane.

Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of  period hardware to outfit it (check out the "Hardware" section of our store).

Condition: The door is strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. It only has nicks  and scratches, but  no broken or cracked joints, gouges, rot, warp, or any other  serious issues. The worst blemishes are some warped or bubbling veneer, which is caused by moisture loosening the veneer from the core wood. Since the glue used back in the day was made from animal sinew, its not water resistance like modern glue. To fix this issue, the veneer needs to be lifted enough to clean and sand underneath, and then glued and clamped to flatten out. We could do this--message us for a price.

Otherwise, just expect nicks, scrapes, and scratches which would disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting. Whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".

The glass is intact and in great condition with only subtle scratches.

Swing: The door is set up to swing into a home towards the left, or away from the home towards the right. We could modify the door to swing in the opposite direction.

Modification: Do you want to replace the current glass with a different type of glass? Do you need a door taller/shorter or wider/narrower? Do you want to change the swing or just plug the hardware holes with solid wood so that you could install your own hardware? Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
