* The last 5 photos show a door that we stripped, repaired, and refinished to give you an idea how an old, used door like this could clean up. Although we don't refinish anymore, we could modify and repair it--see more details below.
Robust, vintage, exterior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It's made of solid pine, and is painted white on both sides.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
It has a lovely arrangement of 4, true-divided, glass lites arranged in a fan pattern. There are 4 raised panels below.
Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware in our online store, and tons more in our physical store.
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with a solid wood, email us for a quote.
Quirks & Considerations: The door's height was unevenly cut by 1/2" at some point, most likely to compensate for the home's settling foundation or a warped floor. We could cut it to an even 78 5/8", cut it narrower and/or shorter, or even build it up to make it bigger--email us for a quote.
The previous owner cut 1/4" off of the width door to make it 31 3/4". He didn't use a table saw, and free-handed it with a power saw. He cut it straight for the most part but messed up a bit at the top of the door causing a slight curve (see last photo) which is obvious when looking at the front of the door. The door measures 31 1/2" at the top that curve. We could cut the door to 31 1/2" or narrower and we could also build it back up to 32" or wider--email us for a quote.
One of the curved pieces of window molding is missing from the front side of the door. We could make and add the piece--email us for a quote.
There are 3 thin (1/16" - 1/8") gaps on the hinge stile. This is not a serious issue and the door could still be installed and used for decades without the gaps widening. However, we could close the gaps using clamps and reinforce/secure the corner using modern glue and some dowels (wooden joints)--message us for a quote.
Condition: The door is in good structural condition. It has the typical nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on an old, used door but there no breaks, cracks, rot, warp, or any serious issues. Most of the blemishes the door has will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
All of the glass is intact and also in great condition with only subtle scratches.
Swing: The door is set up to swing into a house towards the right or away towards the left. We could change the swing--email us for a quote.
Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
