Beautiful, antique, interior doors salvaged from an old, home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The doors are made of solid Douglas Fir or pine and painted on both sides. They have 5 raised, horizontal, stacked panels on both sides.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
Hardware: No hardware included, however, we have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store, and tons more in our physical store.
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Quirks & Considerations: Both doors have cracked panels. Expansion and contraction occurs naturally due to changes in temperature, and the cracks are just a result of this process over the course of many years. It may sound funny, but when the panels expanded and reached their limits within their openings or frames; they were unable to stretch out any further, and ultimately cracked in the center to relieve their stress or tension.
The height of Door#3 was unevenly cut by 3/8" and the height of Door#2 was unevenly cut by 5/8". The cuts were most likely made to accommodate a warped floor or sagging foundation. We could cut any of the doors to an even height/width, or cut them narrower/shorter, or even build them up to be wider/taller--message us for a quote.
Condition: The doors have nicks and scratches, but no broken or cracked joints, rot, warp, or any other serious issues. The worst damage is a small break on the bottom corner of the interior lock-stile.
Otherwise, both doors are strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition and most of the blemishes that they have will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
Swing: The hinge mortises span the thickness of the doors which allow you to install your hinges on either side of the door and define which way it swings.
Modification: Do you want to make a pair using these 2 doors? Do you want to replace the panels with glass, screen/mesh, or something else? We could modify the doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
