For sale is an antique wooden wheel with spokes, part of a Saxony type spinning wheel. A spinning wheel is a device for spinning thread or yarn from fibers. It was fundamental to the textile industry prior to the Industrial Revolution. This is the fly wheel that provides the rotational energy to spin the yarn and causes the other various parts to operate. The solid wood wheel has 16 wooden spokes that form a structure connecting the hub to the rim. The outer part of the wheel is a solid band, indicating a place for hard rubber. Central hub has a metal axle attachment point with a hook/handle, in one side.
The fly wheel comes from an old farm located in Lancaster County, PA. Circa 1920’s.

Measures:
Width: 19 1/2 inches
Height: 19 1/2inches
Depth: 7 1/2 inches (wooden and metal parts included).

Great condition consistent with age and use. Warm natural aged patina. Smooth finish. Minor chips around the band. Please see last picture.
Nice decorative accent, collectible primitive art, or conversation starter piece this wheel honors the artistry of simpler times. It could be use as part of restoring antique spinning wheels for farmhouse, rustic, or country décor.
