Antique Vintage Old Reclaimed Salvaged 72" 6FT "Ridgely" Wood Wooden Ruler Measuring Stick Straight
Wow, what a rare find! Cool, antique 6-foot ruler salvaged from Central Connecticut. Made by, "Ridgely." of Minneapolis, MN
I spent almost an hour searching online for any information about this ruler, but couldn't find anything. I also couldn't find any ruler like it. Most of the old-fashioned, long rulers are foldable or collapsible.
It's tough to tell what woods its made of, but I'm pretty sure the middle band is walnut and the bands above and below are maple. This is why I love old stuff! Not only was old stuff built better and with better materials, but they even cared about how they looked. Just because it's a tool doesn't mean it can't look pretty.
There is a hole on one end which allows it to hang from a wall.
There is also a metal strip attached to the front side to protect the wood from cutting or scoring tools.
I'm not sure how old the piece is, but by guess would be sometime during the 1920's.
Considering its age, it's in great shape. There is a very thin piece (thick sliver) that broke off under the first 15" of the ruler (see photo). the Expect nicks and light scratches on the wood, but no breaks, cracks, dents, gouges, rot, or warp.
