Wonderful, antique captain's chair salvaged from an old restaurant in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The chair was made by "Virginia Craftsmen" who are known for hand-making different antique styles of furniture.  It is made of a solid hardwood (most likely maple) and is stained and finished.

There are 9 vertical spindles as the backrest. The legs and stretchers have beautiful turnings (carvings), and the top of the backrest has a lovely curved, serpentine design.

This chair is very unique. You can see the excellent craftsmanship of the maker by the way it was constructed. There are no nails or screws. Every joint was connected together by dowels, Every piece was hand carved.

The chair is in excellent structural condition, but does have spots of worn finish, paint stains, nicks, and light scratches. The only damage we could was on the top of the backrest. There are 2 small chips of wood missing (see last photo). However, there are no broken or cracked joints, dents, gouges, or rot. All of the joints where 2 separate parts connect are tight. There is no play, jiggle, or looseness at any joint. This chair was built to last a lifetime or more.
